Question / Help Keep camera on/refresh when switching scenes issue?

Hey all. I have an issue where when I switch scenes, my new 'video capture device' source isn't displayed. To fix this I have 'deactivate when turned off turned on', but when I switch scenes I still need to force a refresh by tuning off-on the video capture source. Any ideas?

Is it the same device in two scenes? Basically OBS can only address a video device once, with one collection of settings. The same device in two scenes should be a reference, not a copy, and if you have two versions of the same device with different settings, only one at a time will work, forcing you to manually refresh.

Don't "add new" for the same video capture device. Use "add existing" and select the one you already created.
Nearly all VCDs (webcams, capture cards, etc) can only be accessed by ONE program at a time, and each VCD Source counts as a separate instance.

This also helps cut down on overhead in general, and should be used for pretty much any source you use across multiple scenes.

Late to the party here. I just downloaded Xsplit vcam and I'm trying to get it to function in OBS. In short- I'm trying to have a chatting scene where I simply use my Instalink 360 cam and a gaming scene where I use Xsplit Vcam as the source so I can get rid of my background without having to get a greenscreen. Any time I try to switch between the two scenes, my video just goes blank/black and I have to close OBS and restart it. I feel like the above may apply, but not sure as Xsplit is an app and not a true source. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As the guy above me said, Late to the party however, I spent at least an hour stressing over why the cams didn't work on different scenes. Went through 3 different forums, no one had any sort of answers related to the problem. then I found this forum which, in 3-4 sentences, solved the problem immediately. I've never been more grateful lol. Edit: i also only made a OBS acc to tell you this.
