i've tried a lot of settings, i just get weird jittering in my recordings, even in simple games like sonic mania, I made sure my recordings were going to my SSD because I had issues with my HDD causing dramatic stuttering in the past. If anybody can help me it'd be much appreciated

flw outdated and mkv is better than mp4 the mp4 file corrupts when obs crashes or something else
ok gotcha, and im looking over my logs and it says im dropping frames due to encoding lag on certain occasions ( ex. Video stopped, number of skipped frames due to encoding lag: 34/19887 (0.2%), is that common for most people? it just seems worse than 0.2 when i check my recordings but idk

Exact same issue here I have a RTX 3080 and a i9-9900K but I have no idea what's causing these few skipped frames.

Yeah, i know my reply is like a couple months late, but I tried recording again today and im still having the same stupid problems. I have no idea what it is. On my end it says i have a consistent 60fps when im recording, and when i look back on the mkv file it just has weird frame drops hovering around 30-45 fps and its not even in demanding titles (i used games like sonic mania as an example). I really wish someone knew the answer to this because I'd like my recordings to be as smooth as possible.
