Issues with Streaming Video Using H.265 and AV1 Codecs

Hello OBS Community,

I've recently encountered an issue while trying to stream video using the H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 codecs.

I have successfully used OBS for streaming with the H.264 codec on my rtmp-nginx server, with my output being properly received and played in VLC. However, when I tried switching the output codec to H.265 or AV1, I ran into some problems.

While the audio streams fine, there is no video being displayed. This occurs even though I've confirmed that my version of VLC should technically support these codecs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Enhanced RTMP is required for H265 or AV1 in RTMP. This does not appear to be supported by nginx-rtmp.

Okay, and I also found they said that AV1/HEVC streaming over RTMP is currently only supported by and enabled for YouTube as a beta feature. So at this sense, I still can only use H264 for my custom rtmp server.

Oliver if you want to self host and use AV1 WHIP is available.

AV1 support hasn't been merged yet, but is available in a PR https://github.com/obsproject/obs-studio/pull/9331

You can use whatever WebRTC server you like. I maintain https://github.com/glimesh/broadcast-box to make it easier though!
