Question / Help Is this AverMedia Live Gamer HD Lite encoder spaguetti quality?

Were you actually using it as an encoder or as a capture card? Because what people mean when they say the encoder is bad is when you use it to encode the video.

Most commonly you use it to capture a feed and then encode with x264, which I assume you did? Video looks fine to me.

The intro has some artifacting but it is expected with such a complex scene and that bitrate.

Yes I used the encoder, I had to buy three of them to use 2 as capture devices and the other one to encode.

I was using an i5 that required software to run swiftly (alpha videos go slooooow in i5) so I had to use the Avermedia encoder...

So the quality is good? because using x264 with similar bitrate the quality in disk was almost the same (to my eye).

The answer to your original question is yes. The Avermedia hardware encoder on their capture cards is awful for many reasons.

The reason your stream doesn't look completely terrible is because by video encoding standards, it's very very low motion. Try using it on a modern game or something like a sporting event with high motion, you'll see it fall apart.

That said, at the end of the day it's all about what works for you and what you're happy with. Don't turn to the internet for advice on what looks good and what doesn't, you'll get 50 different opinions and the only ones that matter are yours and your viewers.
