If you're playing your game fullscreen and you have only 1 monitor, no. OBS doesn't have any overlay.
To always see the status in OBS, you need a second monitor and run OBS on that.
Some headsets have integrated functionality to periodically send a "mute" notify tone to signal their mic is muted.
