My og laptop is cooked, so I'm using a spare til I can get a better one, and it's not doin' great with obs. For context, I want to pre-record and not stream, and I'm recording just 2d pixel/sprite platformers. Stuff made in Flash or GameMakerStudio, or emulated games on consoles up to the DS. So in theory I imagine this wouldn't be too heavy, but it is, the lag is pretty bad. Here's a log file from when I tried to run one of these games in August.

The laptop has an Intel i7-4510U CPU at 2.0 GHz, 12GB RAM, a NVIDIA GeForce 840M with 2GB VRAM, and a 1TB HDD. Is there a combo of settings i can use to try and make it run better with these specs so I don't need to go to the trouble of vetting OBS alternatives? I'm already running it at 720p and 30 FPS and still facing these issues.

You've got a double-whammy of having old hardware and a dedicated GPU without a hardware encoder forcing you to use the x264 software encoder, which will be very heavy on your CPU.

Newer versions of OBS don't work with the QuickSync hardware encoder built into your CPU which you need for performance. You need to downgrade OBS to v29 or older (whatever version makes QuickSync work again).

Sorry for being late, I didn't think anybody would respond to this after a few days of nothing.

Anyways, I ran OBS 0.15 yesterday, and it recorded to a functional level. Thank you for your help.
