I can't find any documentation on it.
Discord, for example, has the ability to switch between push to talk and voice activation.
Sometimes I want to use push to talk, and sometimes I still want to use my mic without it; but right now, I have to go into Settings > Audio > (Audio device in particular) and then check on/off on 'Enable Push-to-talk' each time that I want to switch.
