Is there a "push to record" function?

Or in other words some kind of "push to record" function? So it only records as long as a certain button is held down? I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right forum here, I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in streaming games, but what I want to do, is record a vlog from my webcam (which is all set up and working), but as I can't think and talk at the same time, I always take VERY long pauses between sentences when I'm speaking as it takes me a long time to think about what I'm going to say next, even if I have a script in front of me. And rather than have to edit out all the silence later on, I thought a better idea would be to set up some kind of hot key that I could hold down while I speak, so it's paused when the button is released, but not paused when the button is held down? Is there a way to do this, so the only parts that that get recorded is when I'm speaking? I thought I'd found it the other day with this "push to talk" thing, but that's only for audio (I think).

If that function exists, it would not know what to do as you release the button: either pausing or ending your recording.

So there is an (inverted) function: You start the recording and there is a little pause-icon beside the recording button.
You press it once, and it pauses your recording, you press it again and it continues your recording. So its two clicks, possibly fitting already what you want?

It's very close and I was aware of the pause function, but it would be easier if it could all just be set up the way I intended.

As said: Ending a recording is ending a recording. You only can go with the pause function.

At least it's possible to have one hotkey shared for both: pause and unpause the recording. Set the same key combination under settings->hotkeys for the pause record as well as the unpause record function, and give it a try!

I would like to see something similar to what procreate does, which records only when the mouse moves. I want to record a video and if I pause to think about painting I don't want it to record the pause. It will then resume recording when you do something with the hooked program that your using...

by default the script pauses recording on mouse release or mouse stop but this can be modified.

I would also love a "push to record" video feature & use the elgato streamdeck pedal to hold my foot down continuously to record & then release my foot pedal and it would stop recording. I have the same exact issue as you Cool Dude Clem where I have long pauses and hitting the pause and unpause button interrupts my thinking process. A "push to record" feature would be awesome!
