Question / Help Is the Internet Ready for Virtual Video Device OBS?

Hey there, folk,

I've done relentless Googling to tell you something you already know: there are very few options for Macs when it comes to creating virtual video devices. Also known as virtual camera devices, they're the only way to broadcast to a few networks that still demand Flash broadcasting through DirectShow devices. This includes using DirectShow to use any webpage-embedded video input.

The best thread I've seen on this--from 2013--only gave me options to research because fseesink provided them last year, in 2016.

Here's what you can learn from that thread:
I know that OBS gets funded by major players in the field who need OBS, either for their audience or for their own use.

Is there any financial conflict of influence preventing this from happening? Because to be honest, NOBODY wants to offer this feature for free, and has managed it. (CamTwist, webandroid.) I would sooner expect folk to pay OBS to NEVER develop this and stay out of those pay-for-DirectShow markets.

If anybody has options I can use instead of languishing about this fantasy feature, let share here. I am lucky enough to have another Windows computer and have purchased a DXTory license. Maybe this thread could be of more use than threads that are as old as CamTwist.

What do folks use to stream OBS video into DirectShow devices for webpage video?

The closest I've seen is VLC2VCam, if I have my VLC load an OBS stream produced on a separate machine. Yet they are a pay-to-use option by requiring MagicCam as their Virtual Device software. ... and Magic Cam looks horrible. They don't even support 2.x VLC yet.

OBS developers, Jim, forum mods, thank you for your help and support as always.

Last time I checked, OBS doesn't even cover it's own server hosting bills, so there's no "BigWig" or "Big Money" or "Company" influence. It's almost 100% volunteer.

As to your research: Jim has stated that he want's to add that option, but it's not on the table right now, nor are there any plans for it. Best thing to do is find a dev who wants to contribute such and have them contribute it.

As to your question: I don't do that, so I'm not of much help on this. Sorry about that.
