Is OBS what I'm looking for?

My organization would like to host a virtual event and I was wondering is this program is the the one we're looking for.

What we'd like to do:
Kind of like in a live TV broadcast, we'd like to be able to switch to different sources, some pre-recorded and some live streams.

Is this what this program does?

From this very rough specification you gave, probably yes. Probably exactly what you're looking for. However, OBS is designed for interactively creating a live show. You are of course able to import prerecorded videos and even streams as part of your stream, but it's not designed to noninteractively replay prerecorded stuff 24/7 like a media player reproducing its playlist.
