Is it my Modem or my Router?

Hey everyone - I just bought a brand new iMac to stream. I use a LAN connection for both the iMac and the PS4, and use the Elgato HD60S, streaming through OBS.

My frame rate is terrible and my bitrate is just as bad, going from crystal clear to a stuttering, frozen mess and staying there for minutes.

My internet speed test showed that my upload speed was only 12Mbps (it should be 35).

COX internet (my ISP), claims the issue is with my modem, but I just bought the NetGear CM1200 maybe a year or two ago. My router is a Belkin - also fairly new.

If the issue is indeed my modem or my router, what is the best to purchase for both or one? I absolutely hate how much money i've already dumped into this studio, to now have my modem and/or router be the issue.

Thanks for the help

You could test the impact of the router by eliminating it (temporarily) and connecting your iMac directly to the modem. Then do a Speedtest. If the speed issue still exists, it’s the modem. If the issue is resolved it’s the router
