Question / Help Intensity Pro 4K and Mac support?

Hi,

I was wondering if OBS supports the Blackmagic Intensity Pro 4k in mac, as a video capture device?

As I've already gone through the hassle of buying an elgato only to confirm that it only works with their own software, I don't want to make the same mistake again.

As I have PCI ports I'd rather buy an internal card than the Intensity Shuttle, which I see some users have used successfully.

Thanks in advance.

It should work, but I've only used older Intensity cards and USB devices like the shuttle.

I have an AJA U-TAP HDMI right now and I find it to be significantly more reliable than any of the Blackmagic devices I've used so far-- PCI cards or USB.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll take it into consideration.

If anyone has tried the Intensity Pro 4k with OBS on a mac or know with certainty that it will work, please let me know!

Thanks in advance.

I don't have any personal experience with the Intensity Pro 4K, but its tech specs are pretty impressive at that price point.

I'm currently using a Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus, which is similar to Narcogen's AJA (I was eyeing that as well, but it wasn't available at the time). The Magewell needed no drivers, which was a huge plus for me.

Sticking to the PCI Bus though, Magewell also offers a 4K PCI capture card, but is well over 4x the price of the Intensity Pro 4K. Granted, the Magewell tech specs page explicitly says it works with macOS and OBS.

I would stay away from the Intensity product line other than the shuttle. I would shoot straight to Decklink if you're running off the PCIe bus. The drivers and performance are exceptional with OBS.

I have an Intensity Pro 4k on mac. I use it for my PS4 (1080p59.94) and for my GH4 (4k30p). It works perfect. There were issues with drivers the first couple months it cane out but has worked perfectly the past several years now. Better than elgato, avermedia etc

The price and specs that Blackmagic is marketing the Intensity Pro 4K with is what got my attention. It suits all my needs and also gives me an HDMI output. I've read some bad reviews on the card but it seems to be mostly from the initial release, which should hopefully be sorted out by now, as Herolordman mentioned.
Thank you for the confirmation that you got it up and running on the Mac with OBS. Can I ask about the audio, does it get captured along with the video through obs or do you need a workaround like Soundflower for it to get picked up?

The hdmi audio gets captured as well. One thing to note is that if you are trying to capture video gameplay (ps4 etc), there are a few milliseconds of input lag, so you will want an active HDMI splitter to send hdmi directly to your gaming monitor. Othwerwise, the input lag is so miniscule in other applications (recording camera etc) that you wont notice it. Thats all i could think of concerning any type of workaround i need to use for my usage. An active splitter is like 15 bucks anyway.

Oh okay, that's good to know. It does take away the usefulness of having an HDMI output on the card then, in that regard. You would need a splitter for the other cards recommended here anyway.

Thanks for the heads up.
