Question / Help Insufficient disk space (although there is enough)

Hello,

I recently updated my OBS to the newest version, after not using it for a long time.
I never had a problem before, but when I want to start recording it tells me "There is not sufficient disk space to continue recording" - right after I clicked "Start Recording".
I have about 30 gb open storage on my PC, but I actually record on an external hard drive which I connected via USB. The hard drive is a HDD and has 1.8 TB open storage. As I said, I never head problem with it. Is their some faulty setting I could have or should I just try to cleanly reinstall OBS?

Go to SETTINGS/ OUTPUT/RECORDINGS and make sure you have the recording path set to where you save your recordings...

I did. It says its the right path which is "E:/" , but when I click on it, it shows me this path "C:\Program Files\obs-studio\bin\64bit"
Even when I click on my external drive, just to be sure, OBS still gives me the same error.
The only difference after I reclicked my external drive is that OBS shows me my hard drive right away. But as I said, I still get the same error.

For example when I click "Show recordings" it acutally shows me my external hard drive.

Create a folder in your destination drive.
Go to Settings
Click on Browse
Chose the folder.

I had this issue. After reading this page, I realized that I had assigned a folder as my record destination that didn't exist (I had assumed that OBS would create it.) As soon as I pointed OBS to an existing folder it worked perfectly.

Ok i literally just fixed this issue like 5 minutes ago, so here is what was wrong. It was showing me that i had insufficient disk space, so i went into my file folder and following the path that OBS gave me and that folder DID NOT Exist, so what i did after that was i went into my C Drive which would show up as either (C:) ; C:/ ; or even.... Windows (C:)>. After i went into that drive i created a new folder nested in that drive Called OBS Recorded Videos, so now my file path location turned out like this C:\OBS Recorded Videos . So i copied that file path by clicking up in the address bar of windows explorer and pasted it into OBS Settings>Output>Recordings and then one other problem popped up i couldnt find the Apply or save button, so i merely just made that current window smaller and bam, i clicked apply all settings saved, with a correct file path in OBS, i even did a test recording and it hasnt given me problems yet.

Follow these instructions if you ever have any problems like i did, they may not be clear, but you just have to really take in the information. i hope this helps everyone!!!

I am getting the same error message "there is insufficient data space to continue recording". I tried the remedy listed by McMarcel but his directions are not working for me. It seems this is a problem that occurs once we do all the upgrades. Does anyone at OBS have a step by step solution to this problem? I am sure others have experienced similar problems. Please let me know what you guys are finding.

P.S. When I open my C drive, OBS is found inside the Program Data folder. Once I go there, I find to folders, one is obs-studio and the other is obs-studio-hook. At this point the instructions given above no longer apply.

This thread is also 4 years old.
Additionally, saving directly to externals is not recommended
