Question / Help Increase max negative offset of mic?

I am using OBS Studio for streaming PC games and I have my mic running through Adobe Audition with VAC and the filters/effects I am trying to use introduce a TON of delay (4ish seconds). I tried increasing my offset of that input in the mixer to get it to match up but past about -900ms the audio starts to break up. Is there some setting I can adjust to allow me to sync the audio that is that far off?

What effects are you trying to use? And do you have a proper soundcard with ASIO drivers that support somewhat low latency? I haven't had the need to use any particular effects in OBS, and the ones I want I have as hardware, but I do produce music and record vocals as well and 4 seconds sounds unreasonably much unless you have ALOT of effects. You shouldn't really need to compensate for that much latency, rather I would look into why the latency is that big.

The ones I am using that seem to have an impact are:

1. Delay
2. Reverb
3. Speech Volume Leveler
4. Adaptive Noise Reduction

Obviously I don't NEED this, just been playing around and like the sound. If I remove Delay and Reverb the delay drops to about 750ms which I can compensate for, but I would love it if I could get it all working. If I change from Speech Volume Leveler to Amplify there is very little lag, but I don't get the nice even audio that Speech Volume Leveler gives me.

I don't have a proper soundcard. I am running a Rode Podcaster over USB into the computer, then using that as the input in Audition with Virtual Audio Cable Line 1 as the output. When I enable the preset I have created Audition warns me that effects I have enabled can cause delay and CPU usage. I'm running an i7-6900k, and the program doesn't show much CPU usage really.

I am brand new to Audition, only use Audacity in the past, so it is obviously 100% possible that I have done something incorrectly to cause this large of a delay, but I'm not sure what.

Alright. If you don't have "real"/native for your soundcard ASIO drivers you could try out http://www.asio4all.com/ and see if that reduces your latency. The problem is usually when you're running on a the motherboard soundcard, the latency gets bad real fast after just a few effects on Windows. Mac for example has its CoreAudio which does this job a lot better. But ASIO4ALL should bring it down a bit. If you have any issues getting it to work make sure you check out the settings for ASIO4ALL.

Oh and also, Speech Volume Leveler is more of a "post-production" effect and will surely introduce some nasty latency regardless. Look into using a compressor instead! If I remember correctly in one or two of the compressors there should be a preset called voice leveller or voice over leveller or something like that, try those out. Compressors can be a bit tricky to wrap your head around but basically when configuring them think of it like this: when the input level goes ABOVE the threshold you specify, it will reduce the volume with the ratio amount you set in RATIO. It's one of the most essential tools in the audio toolbox. And if you want to learn more about audio mixing I would recommend reading up on it!

Hope this works better for you!
