Question / Help I'm Stumped: Mic audio snaps and crackles

Before you say use the search function, I looked up and tried just about all the known fixes for this problem and it still has me stumped and it's really messing with my workflow.

I've been using OBS for a while. I make YouTube videos and stream. I recently changed my PC setup to include an Apollo Twin Duo MkII. Up til that point I'd been using USB interfaces for mic input on PC.

When I use the Thunderbolt interface I get a crackling in my mic audio going out of OBS. If I record the same audio in a separate DAW, it's fine. And that works OK for something with postproduction like my YouTube videos, but not for live streaming.

I tried noise gate, noise suppression, making sure my gain staging was OK going into and out of OBS. Some of it worked a little, but not enough to call it OK.

My fear is this is a Thunderbolt audio problem, which will really make me sad if it is. At this point, I've had to break out my Blue Yeti mic and I hate that thing. It's as big as my head.

Anyone experience anything like this or have any ideas beyond to normal fixes?

Thanks in advance.
