Question / Help I5 4690K vs I7 4790K

I currently have a I5 4690K and stream csgo. Recently I have noticed my fps isn't good enough to play competively and stream, it seems to vary from 250 FPS all the way down to 80 FPS. I am looking at the possibility of upgrading CPU so I can stream again, I believe the I7 4790K is the recommended cup atm, how does this perform compared to my cpu and what can I expect.

Thanks in advance

Is the 4690k Overclocked?

the increase is about 30% if both are stock.

As they have the same socket LGA1150 and if the Mobo you have can accept the 4790k CPU its a decent straight swap without having to change most internal parts.

some stats to compare for the CPU's to help understand the increase

Intel Core i5-4690K @ 3.50GHz
Clockspeed 3.5 GHz
Turbo Speed Up to 3.9 GHz
# of Physical Cores 4
# of Samples 3744
Single Thread Rating 2232

CPU Mark 7693

Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.00GHz
Clockspeed 4.0 GHz
Turbo Speed Up to 4.4 GHz
# of Physical Cores 4
# of Samples 10921
Single Thread Rating 2527

CPU Mark 11187

Thanks for the response Bob great information, I will have to check if the I5 is overclocked and get back to you, what difference would the overcloxkerss make if it is stock (I.e small or big). I have put the PC specs below just as reference.

Np, if the 4690k is overclocked the CPU Mark would be higher than 7693 and closer the the 4790k base. The 4790k can also be OC. I would expect the 4790k to give you a decent boost, just ensure you also review if you need to upgrade the H60 cooler.

checking the CPU support list for you Asus ROG mobo you should be fine to swap url here http://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_RANGER/HelpDesk_CPU/

Its an art to OC due to having to balance heat with vcore vs risk. I would suggest reading up a lot or checking YT for some people who are showing how to do it, but if done wrong you can require some new PC internals :-).

Managed to get it to 4.3ghz at 1.2volts, max temp under 100% old was 85 degrees, just gonna monitor it and hopefully it's fine. While streaming my FPS was a lot better.
