Question / Help I want to stream/record at 60fps, is my PC capable of it?

Hi,

Here are my PC specs:

Processor: Pentium dual core G3258
RAM: 8GB @ 1333MHz
HDD: Western Digital drive for recording
GPU: Radeon RX 460 2GB
Monitor resolution: 1920 x 1080

I have access to 40mbps Internet connection but I'm having trouble streaming, I'm using QuickSync to encode the stream or record at 1080p 60fps. Games like Hitman GO are streaming fine but there is micro-stutter. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider are impossible to stream, 1 frame is being shown for more than 10 minutes. There is stutter in all streams.

In recording, I'm getting encoder overloaded error with QuickSync for LA_ICQ. ICQ is set at 25 and LA is set to 35, file size also seems to have increased over the default settings.

But PS2 games emulated on PCSX2 are streaming fine, there is stutter and freezing but it is also there in the emulation. I thought QuickSync encoder should only be concerned with scene complexity of whatever it is recording or streaming whether it is an emulation or PC game, so why is there more stutter and freezing in PC games when they are being streamed or recorded?

Does the CPU's temperature affect the iGPU responsible for QuickSync? Could that explain why PS2 emulated games are streaming fine and PC games aren't?

What streaming and recording settings are ideal for my setup? Is my PC capable of streaming or recording at 60 fps at any resolution at all?

Recording is also taking a long time to stop.

Thanks

Don't use LA_ICQ for Quicksync recording, use ICQ instead. The Quicksync hardware encoder hasn't infinite encoding resources. ICQ mode needs a lot less internal computing power than LA_ICQ. The saved footage quality will be the same, it's only the file size that get a little bigger. Adjust the ICQ parameter, if required.

Thanks for replying.

I only selected LA_ICQ after it was recommended by OBS for local recording here: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/custom-parameters-of-quicksync.104/

There is also ghosting in dark areas.

Umm... that happens to be my guide... well, then I have as excuse that you didn't read the guide completely, where in "general remarks" at the end is stated that you should use the next more simple algorithm, if you encounter problems. :)

A problem is as well that this guide is for OBS classic, where you got the "Encoding Overloaded" message more reliably for hardware encoders than it is the case with OBS studio. In OBS studio, at least when I last checked, Quicksync with LA_ICQ simply did nothing as soon as it was overloaded and gave no warnings.

Thanks for replying and thanks for that helpful guide, I learned a lot from it. I'll check with ICQ as you suggested and report back. What settings would you recommend for me? Like encoder settings and resolution and fps settings? Is CPU at all involved in the encoding if I select QuickSync? Is CPU involved in encoding for streaming even if I select QuickSync and use VBR?

I think I'm definitely using OBS Studio because it updated a while back and I think OBS Classic is phased out and no longer receiving updates.

So I tested your suggestion, when I was playing in PCSX2 in windowed mode there was no stuttering, but when I pressed ALT-ENTER to get into full screen, some parts of it was cut off and there was stuttering.

Even with ICQ set to 25 in Rise of the Tomb Raider I got encoder overloaded error, I was recording at 1080 60fps.

But I didn't encounter this error while recording a PCSX2 emulated game.
