Bug Report [I solved] my Windows 10 Creators ed upgrade issues (Low/No in-game sound and Yeti stopped working)

TL;WR Wall of words. TL;DR at bottom.

If you updated to Windows 10 Creators edition after you "perfected" your OBS settings for your stream, only to find that things don't work after the upgrade, here's what I found regarding a couple of issues.

My setup includes:
  • W10 64 bit (Creators ed, was Anniversary)
  • OBS Studio 18.0.0.1 (64 bit)
  • ASROCK Z97 Extreme6
  • CPU G3258 (OC'd 4.2GHz)
  • Memory - 16 GB Corsair Vengeance
  • GPU - EVGA GTX 750 TI FTW
I use NVENC for encoding, no webcam (I have a face for radio), and a couple of overlays. I never run over 40% CPU when operating, I stream Xbox with my LGX, I have ZERO cooling other than stock fan, and feel very happy with results. Will link video sample tonight after I get home.

Problem = Low/NO in-game sounds - The Windows 10 update has an issue with Realtek drivers on my ASROCK Z97 Extreme6 MB, as well as other folks with Realtek from what I read. After having everything working perfectly fine, and before I officially start streaming, I found that I lost ALL in-game sounds, including my voice with my (solved below), after the Creators update. It was this link that had this comment that lead me to my solution:

It’s possible that your problem relates to Dolby Digital 5.1 and the Realtek High Definition Audio driver. If that is so, unfortunately, at this moment in time, there’s no fix. Your only course of action to resolve the Windows 10 Creators Update audio problem, is to uninstall the update.
Solution - Why roll back when you can reinstall the last version of drivers from Asus and overwrite the updated/current MS drivers instead? BAM! All in-game audio returned immediately.

Problem = Yeti mic not outputting audio in OBS - The mic was working, I could hear myself in RECentral recordings, but not OBS (but it worked perfectly before the W10 update). After checking the usual suspects for tracks, playback/recording in Windows, device manager, and more, I was ready to scream because it was obviously working. Heck, even my Reaper VST plugins were working. They were able to create profiles for the ambient noise in my room and would adjust as I breathed, typed and coughed, and save it like it did in the past.

Solution - Remove and Re-Add the Yeti. I replaced the exact same settings, and even track number, as before. Added the same filters, and BAM! Now I could hear my voice recorded over the game.

Also found a solution to AVerMedia GC550 Live Gamer Extreme (LGX) video freeze in OBS stream and recordings (even though audio continues to stream or record after the anomaly). Will post that in another thread later. That wasn't a W10 Creators issue.

TL;DR - Fixed low/no game audio issue with OBS and W10 upgrade by re-installing 2 year old Realtek audio drivers over MS's current ones, and removed and re-added Yeti audio "source" from OBS to regain ability to hear recorded audio. This doesn't convey the frustration from the countless hours lost to tweaking everything back to before W10 changes.

I hope that this helps someone with one of these two issues. It resolved mine.
