i made a mistake where i made the screen area too big and i dont know how to fix it- anyone know how to help me?

Welcome aboard. It's a bit unclear what exactly do you mean with "screen area".
If you mean the extensions/dimension of a specific source within obs, then

- click onto to select the source,
- press Ctrl+F (to fit) or Ctrl+R (to reset)

If you mean the obs gui itself then

- press F11 to switch between fullscreen and window mode.
