I just installed OBS last night and iShowU. I'm getting set up to do FB lives. So this morning I discover that I can't hear anything- no sound on my computer - or very very faintly in the background. In Preferences > Sound... it says it's connecting with the built-in microphone but, again, no sound is coming out when I try and listen to a video. How can I fix this?

Built-in microphone is an input, not an output.
If you can't hear, you need to either switch away from iShowU as the default output, or use whatever feature iShowU has for passthrough to send sound from their virtual device to a hardware device so you can hear.
I don't use iShowU so I am not that familiar with it, but there is always LineIn which can do that-- send audio from the iShowU virtual device to a hardware device for monitoring.

See the reply I wrote early this morning to my own question, "Recordings of PreSonus Studio One w/OBS & iShowU capturing video only". Read through that. I detail how Mac's Audio MIDI Setup should be configured and how OBS should be configured. I included screen shots.
Let me know if you have questions after you go through that. It should fix your problem.
