Question / Help I have no problems with my old OBS 22.0.2, why should I update ?

Almost all posts on this forum are to report some error in OBS, problems that many people face, some, that can´t even been solved. I´m running and old version, as I said, 22.0.2 ( 64 bits ) which is very stable. It works wonderfully, even NDI plugin ( That I had to carefully find the correct version in order to work ). So, should I try to update or no ? And if I update, what benefits would I expect ? Perhaps the new versions put more load onto the machine... perhaps it would crash or do something odd... what do you think about updating something which is running perfectly fine ?

No one is forcing you to update. If you have no issues with your current configuration, then it's your prerogative whether to update or not.

If you do start experiencing issues with something that is version related (i.e. Windows updates causes incompatibility with libraries, GPU driver issues, audio issues, etc), then the first step would be to update to the latest OBS version, because a lot of those issues have already been addressed and fixed.

Besides that, there are quite a few feature updates past 22.0.2, which you can read here. Also, if you use plugins, then usually only the latest OBS version will be officially supported.

Newer versions run usually more stable, have bugs fixed and have more features. Do always update. If there were any serious issues with a new release, a bugfix would be released probably sooner than you realized this, and you are always able to downgrade to some old version in case it isn't. A week after release of a new version, look into the forum to look for new issues specific with that version, and if there are none, upgrade. Disregard reports about lags, black screens and network issues of course, since they are not specific to some release but to the user's installation.
Additionally, if Microsoft changed the directx dll's with a Windows update, there is a chance an update for OBS is required for game or display capture to work as efficient as expected.

From my point of view, there is no point in not running the most recent OBS Studio version. It's the thing people are talking about, and with what the developers are working with and improving. Not the older versions.
