Install VLC 2.2 and add a VLC source and create a VLC playlist.

Use another player and add your default sound output device as a source, controlling playback with the player.

Add media files directly as media sources.

If VLC is not available then you did not install version 2.2. Uninstall the version you have and install version 2.2

VLC plugin was written against the API in VLC 2.x. VLC updated to 3.x, changed this API, but the plugin has not been updated. So OBS does not see VLC 3.x as a valid installed version of VLC for the purposes of the plugin source.

I've ended up using Ishowyou and Tuneout. Was pretty simple and I can use Itunes where all my music already is. Next up is to try to setup vlc to play video clips in a playlist that I get before the races start. Last weekend I was loading them as individual media sources and that was painful

I use vlc with youtube videos, playlists and local files for music and videos. works great but probably not the best route for just music as it has to play a video as well, but i just downsize it offscreen and well in the background layer. However, there is no need to 3rd party desktop capture and have it playing in a second app which was what I was running into.

I try to only have obs, my twitch dashboard, and streamlabs events running. Once streamlabsOBS OS comes out, I won't have to do all of that, just 1 program. so here's hoping!

I was thinking of going with twitch's Spotify music player but I have found that not everything in the twitch CC free playlist is youtube CC free, and also I have an easier time of finding Twitch CC Free music on youtube as well. Youtube is the endgame for the best of/fails and so for me, it's easier to plan for that. I never felt up to the siphon inject
