I Can't Hear any of the In-Game Audio

Hi
I know other people have had problems with this, but the last place where I've seen a post similar to this was posted in 2016.
I play Minecraft 1.16.3 with headphones on, and when I record, you can't hear any of the game audio. I've updated to the newest version that came out yesterday (OBS Studio version 26, I think, or whatever the newest version is, I think it was 26) and I've watched many tutorial videos on YouTube and looked at a couple of blog posts on this site. In the audio mixer menu, I have both of the audio turned all the way up; you can hear my voice just fine, but you can't hear AT ALL anything that's going on in the game.
Can someone please help? I just need a simple answer. Do I need something installed to catch the audio? Why isn't it picking up?
I'll take any help you can give.
Thank you.

I'm also having problems with lag in my recordings-- I've tried everything-- redoing the setup wizard, watching tutorials from YouTube (but they're not recent) and asking my viewers. Nothing has helped so far-- does anyone have any experience with this? I put the setup wizard to optimize for recording; should I optimize for streaming instead? Will that make better quality videos even though I won't be streaming?

Virtual cable seems kind of old, like it's from 2014 or something-- how do I get the Minecraft audio connected to it and hooked up to OBS? The website and the information seems like it's old-- are you sure it still works with the current version of mac and OBS version 26?
