Question / Help HVENC local record 4k?

I am pretty new to the OBS platform. I was testing OBS Original for the past few days and decided to try OBS Studio. What I have noticed is that I can't record local at 4k resolution. When I click on the "START RECORDING" button(3-4 times) it crashes OBS Studio. Once I change the output scale resolution to about 2880x1800 then the button works without crashing OBS Studio

The OBS original was able to do the 4k. Is Studio imp'd?

I don't do ANY live broadcast. I mainly just record in-game videos with RTSS w/HWINFO overlay. I just want to be able to record them in 4k

System Specs: 4790k, SLI 980TI, 32GB
Suggestions?

You mean NVENC, right?

I just did a test using my custom build (between 0.14.2 and 0.14.3, which isn't out yet), and I can get NVENC recording at 3840p60.

There was only a tiny change between 0.14.2 and my build (related to getting lossless NVENC working), so it wouldn't affect that.

What exact settings are you using? Is OBS's canvas sat to 4k, or is the output being scaled up to 4k for some reason?

The only thing that seems to affect if I can record (at all) with NVENC is the setting "Output (Scaled) Resolution" I have to drop it down to 2k. If I leave it in 3840x2400 it crashes OBS Studio

Hang on, 3840x2400? I'm pretty certain NVENC supports no higher than 3840x2160, 4k 16:9, not 16:10.

I will double check if there is a 3840x2160, my monitor is a 16:10 so it defaults to 3840x2400

BUT it doesn't make sense why OBS original works and now OBS Studio doesn't.... unless OBS Studio is imp'd

Ok just tested OBS Studio, ANY resolution that is 3840x2400 or 3072x1920 crashes. 2880x1800 and below works perfectly fine.

Ah, nevermind! I was wrong with my assumption about 4k. NVENC (at least from the 9xx series onwards, I believe) can encode up to 4096x4096, so it's definitely not a problem with NVENC.
