How to Use OBS on a 2015 MacBook Without Overloading the GPU?

Friends, I'm using a 2015 MacBook with an AMD R9 M370X. I'm on macOS Monterey and I want to use OBS to record work calls. The problem is that as soon as I launch OBS, it wakes up the discrete GPU and loads it to 100% even without recording—just displaying the desktop. I don't understand why this is happening. Why does this simple task consume any resources at all? When I start recording and have a Google Meet call, after a while the computer starts to lag severely.

I downloaded the 2017 version of OBS, and the GPU load isn't as extreme. What has changed over the years?

Overall, I have to say that recording the MacBook screen is a real pain. While it's incredibly easy on an iPhone, it’s just as difficult on a MacBook. It can't even record its own sound; you need to install some third-party software for that. And most of the time, this software is either paid or overly complicated. It's a mystery.
