Question / Help How to set base resolution for sub-region

Ok, so this was a simple feature in OBS Classic where you could create a sub-region and then set the base recording resolution so that it would match the sub-region resolution.

Is there any way to do this in OBS Studio? I am fully aware of how to create a sub-region either by using the Alt+drag method or by using a crop filter, however both of these methods leave black areas around my cropped region.

Right now the only method I know of is simple trial and error to set my base resolution to match the cropped area. Is there any way I can see the resolution of the cropped area? I would prefer to not stretch/re-size it to 1920x1080p for quality purposes. (For instance, my cropped region very well could be 865x450, or some odd size.)

This method still seems to leave black around whatever area of the screen I want to record as well. I guess there really is no "Set Base Resolution" within OBS Studio.

Oh well. I'll just record my full screen with OBS and edit/crop within Sony Vegas I guess. Or re-install OBS Classic.

That is simply not possible, if the base resolution is the same size as the source, there will be no black bars.

So then what exactly should I be doing within Edit Transform?

Using Crop Left, Crop Right, etc leaves me with black around the section I want to record.

In OBS Classic I could select the area I want to record, click "Set Base Resolution", and my recording resolution would automatically be the size of the area I selected.

You can edit the base resolution in the video tab in the settings menu, if that's what you're looking for.

Although 865x450 won't work because the width is not divisible by 2

EDIT: My bad, I didn't read that you wanted to know the size of the section - but like Osiris said, you can easily see that.

What exactly am I missing here? For example, look at this screencap I took. Let's say I want those crops to only show what is in the preview window.

How do I see the new resolution of that cropped area? Original was 1920x1080, but now that I've cropped the top, bottom, right, and left, the resolution is no longer 1920x1080. This new cropped area could be somewhere around 1000x500 for all I know. If I were to hit record right now, I'd get a 1920x1080 video that has large black areas on the bottom and right.

I want to set the video recording resolution to only show that cropped area, and I don't want to stretch it out to fill the whole area. I know the original resolution, but what is the NEW resolution? Again, in OBS Classic, there was a simple button saying "Set Base Resolution" which would automatically set the video recording resolution to that new cropped resolution.

The numbers show how much you remove from each side.
Granted, you need to do the math[1], but your use case is just not that common.

So your new canvas should be 1386x800 in that screenshot of yours. :)
