How to recover last part of improperly closed mkv?

I had a large recording that closed improperly due to unplanned system shutdown. I multiplexed the mkv with mkvtoolnix so I can scrub through it, but the ending is quite some time before the close. The file was being written to until the end. How can I recover the last part of the stream that's in the original file?

Try Avidemux. If you get the same result with just a remux, you can try trimming the bad ending to save the rest of the file. Make cuts on Keyframes only or you will have to re-encode.
