Question / Help how to record games on windows 8 64 bit

New to this software I need info on how to set it to record my games on full screen mode that would be playable on VLC tried it but all I got was the game sound no actual pictures.

Its a desktop pc with nvidia card
And would like to know the difference between the multiplatform one and the other

OBS Multiplatform is a new version that is in developing.

OBS is a program that is a few years and with OBS you can record/stream things.
