How do I maximize my OBS recording quality while keeping the file size lower? I am ONLY recording (not streaming). I need to upload to Youtube for review. I have no idea how long I need to make the videos, but the longer the better. I have what file restrictions are on Youtube.

  • I will be using my Dell S2716DGR 27" 144 hz 2650x1440 monitor as the display capture. I am on Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Here is my PC build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/d28KD2
  • I will be playing Magic the Gathering Arena on ultra settings

I've already set up and run some test games. The quality is definitely there but the file size is just so massive. I did a 3 minute recording and it was over 1 GB.

Can I get some help? I'd be extremely grateful.

Output Mode > Simple
Recording Quality > High Quality, Medium File Size

You can also used advanced mode with the NVENC encoder and choose CQP rate control; the lower a number you set, the higher the quality and the larger the file. To make the file size smaller you can try a value between 20-25; increase it until you start to feel the quality is too low.
