Hotkeys to start/stop recording not working reliably

Hi,
I'm getting this issue pretty much every time I'm recording. I need to record segments during my gameplay and regularly, the start/stop hotkey doesn't work so OBS records while I think it doesn't and doesn't record while I think it does. This is really frustrating as there is no way to solve this, except stop recording games. I would either need an on-screen display, or a more reliable mechanism to start/stop recording. The other screen recording tools I tried have issues with my audio setup. Audio from microphone always record on the left channel only. OBS is the only program configurable enough to solve my audio recording issue, but it more and more fails because of the hotkey problem.

Can't duplicate with Ctrl + 2 for starting/stopping recording. What is your Hotkey Focus Behavior?

I'm using F12 as start/stop key. It often works, but sometimes the key press doesn't register so recording doesn't start or stop, and I notice that recording failed only when switching off the game and checking my footage. I'm not 100% sure it is OBS itself. It may be Windows, the keyboard, the fact the keyboard is hooked through a USB hub (built into my monitor) as opposed to directly in a back USB port. I could try replacing the keyboard, which I did 3 to 5 times these last years without much improvement. The best solution would be some kind of clud that recording started or stopped, either an on-screen display or some kind of indicator sound.

Try using a different key than F12 (just avoid the function keys altogether) such as Ctrl + 2.
