Question / Help Hotkey not working when OBS not active

I know there are threads similar, but none seem to have a solution.

I have the EK-20 which uses a software to send the keys assigned to each button to the hardware. It doesn't use a software to send the key presses.

When I run OBS (whether admin or not) and use one of the buttons (i've assigned to scene switch for e.g) it doesn't register the key press unless the window is active.

However, (this is where it gets weird), If I spam the key really fast, after a few seconds it registers the key press and switches scene.

I've also just tried sending the keypress via autohotkey running as admin and it does the same as above. It's only OBS, the same hotkey i'm trying to use on OBS works fine if I do it on discord for example.

OBS uses polling so it cannot detect virtual keypresses very well.

Funny you say that, because that's what actually got it 'working'. The usb device which works like a keyboard doesn't work for OBS, however thanks to help from IRC, done it by autohotkey pressing the key down for 100ms and then releasing it and that's got it working.

However, if there is a fix for the hardware issue to where I don't need AutoHotKey, i'd prefer that.
