Horrible Quicksync quality with Intel XE/UHD 750

I recently picked up an Intel 11 series rocketlake CPU. The encoding quality for games using Quicksync on the XE/UHD 750 integrated graphics is REALLY bad. Tons of macroblocking and combing artifacts. Its way worse than the Quicksync quality from my Kabylake 7600k (which is actually quite decent).

Basically, it seems like maybe OBS doesn't yet have proper support for Rocket Lake's UHD 750? Does anyone know what's up?

Using CBR mode
Target usage I tried both "quality" and "very slow"
6000 Kbps
High profile
keyframe 2
Latency "normal"
tried 0 b frames, 1, 2, and 3
tried with and without "subjective video enhancements".
1440p downscaled to 1080p and 720p.

I don't see any other options.

I also tried the "simple" mode, with "quality" option set.

Using Intel's driver Version 27.20.100.9466 from 3/30/2021, which is the most recent available for UHD 750

Can you verify encoding a raw file with handbrake? All these programs use the same Intel API. There have been issues in the past were people have had to revert to an older driver because of severe macroblocking until Intel released a fix.

I know it's an old thread but were you able to solve this issue? How does Quicksync look now?

I have the same issue. i have a UHD 770 in my 12600k and even with
my current settings in OBS Studio:

  • Target Usage: veryslow
  • Profile: high
  • Rate Control: LA_CBR
  • Latency: normal
  • B-Frame: 3
  • Bitrate: 9000kbit
both.. the recorded material and the streamed material is equal to x264 veryfast or lower in terms of quality.

This is honestly not what I had in mind.

driver: doesnt matter if i use the one from the mainboard manufacturer (30.0.101.1002)
or the newest one from intel (31.0.101.3222). The "quality" is the same.

No matter what i do... nothing changes.

Any ideas?

Where's the beef? Or are you just depending on the iGPU?

12900k/3090 & my 770 encodes look f'n fantastic, even better than NVENC encodes...

For the recording, try LA_ICQ Rate Control w/ICQ Quality @ 18. Want higher quality lower the number but if you go below 15 keep an eye on Task Manager/GPU-Z. File too big, raise the ICQ Quality #.
