I wasn't sure to put this, i hope this helps someone but i am not sure if its a bug in OBS, Windows or Nvidia.
So my quick story. I got a 1080ti yesterday. Loaded up OBS and noticed GPU usage was at 30% at the preview screen. I re positioned the card, reinstalled windows, installed a bunch of drivers with DDU and i was stumped. I spent about 12 hours trying to trouble shoot. I was going to write here and made a video of the problem.
Then i noticed in the video when i opened the search box the GPU usage dropped and the power went up. So long story short, i had to set OBS to maximum performance from adaptive in the NVIDIA settings and now its perfect. 2-3% GPU usage on the preview screen.
So if anyone has weird GPU usage on the preview screen, try to set your OBS to maximum performance in the NVIDIA control panel :). If youd still like the video i can replicate the problem and send it over to anyone.
