I've been trying obs on this computer for about a year but nonmatter what I try my recordings either look like trash or keep drooping frames. I have a rtx 2080, i7 8700 with an good aftermarket cooler, 16 gb of 2666 ddr4 ram. I have tried using NVENC and cpu encoding but both come out bad. And when the update with the thing what auto picks setting I finally thought it would work but it made no difference.

Recording...video, audio or both? What are you using for your video recording (camera)? Are you overloading the computer?

I'm trying to do screen capture and record the audio from my computer and mic. I'm not doing anything with my webcam and when I'm recording and playing csgo I'm only at about 40% cpu usage

I suspect your OBS settings may be too much for real-time video encoding with a 3 generation old CPU and/or a non-optimized OS, but let's see
