I'm fairly competent when it comes to OBS, often being the guy that works with others to figure out there issues but I'm hitting a problem with my i7-7700k production machine that is bothering me.
I'm running a dual PC setup with game being captured by an ElGato HD60 Pro (would have preferred a magewell but I was on a budget.) I was running everything at medium preset without any issues whatsoever until I recently bumped it to 60FPS and I started seeing issues when doing media encoding. I have multiple videos that I use during breaks made by a video editor. The video I'm looking at now is an mp4 file running 1080p60. Its 00:02:32 long and its file size is around 900mb. As soon as I start the video with the media source plugin, OBS warns me of high cpu use and I see 88% CPU utilization. If I bump OBS to faster it doesn't seem to make a difference. The stream also gets very choppy despite the fact that I'm not dropping any frames in OBS. If I use the VLC Source plugin, CPU instantly hits 100% and its actually worse.
I'm not sure if its just the videos I've been given are being rendered too high quality? The data rate on the file in question is 50000kb/s. As a non-video person, I'm not sure how this stacks up.
If I need to have him compress the videos more, thats fine, I just need to tell him that. I dont want to sacrifice my CPU preset to Superfast just so videos wont be choppy but then have a stream that runs like garbage the rest of the time.
Production PC Specs:
I7-7700k @ 4.5ghz
16GB DDR Ram
Asus Z-270a-ITX
Elgato HD60 Pro
Side note: My CPU does run a bit warm during full load, anywhere from 65-75 Celsius but from what I've read thats not abnormal on an air cooler (Cryorig H7).
