I'm on my M1 MBA, 16 GB RAM, 7 GB GPU, and 256 GB of storage. I use OBS only for recording, and I've never tried streaming. I record myself giving lectures with Krita (a paint software) on full screen mode.
The problem is that OBS eats up a lot of CPU even when I'm not recording (~40%). I noticed this after 20 minutes of recording my Krita session. There was a noticeable lag in the movement of my pen in Krita, and OBS ate up ~120% of CPU. I ended the session and tried messing with the configurations, by disabling preview, changing to ultrafast, and managed to reduce idle CPU usage to around 20-30 percent, but it still shoots up when I click record. This does not seem to have anything to do with Krita. I record without sources and OBS still manages to consume near 100% of CPU.
