Help with video capture from laptop to OBS in another PC

Hi everyone! This is my first time using OBS, and I'm still trying to figure things out. I'm currently using it to stream zoom presentations at work. I also bought an HDMI to USB video capture card similar to an Elgato Camlink. So here is my problem:

I want to output the display coming from my laptop to the OBS on my desktop. I tried doing this by connecting the following:

LAPTOP HDMI OUTPUT -> VIDEO CAPTURE CARD -> DESKTOP USB

When I choose the Video Capture Device as a source in OBS, it only shows a black screen. I checked the laptop and it is detecting the video capture card as a secondary display. I also checked if the capture card is working so I connected my PS4 to the capture card and ran i through OBS, which is capturing the video output from the PS4 fine.

Can anyone give me advice regarding this? Thank you!

On your laptop, you need to duplicate or extend the Windows desktop to the capture card. If you don't tell Windows to actively use it as monitor, Windows will output nothing to it. The capture card appears as additional monitor for Windows.

How do you do that?
