Help with the basics

Hello. I just downloaded and installed OBS to my Win10 desktop. I wish to capture and save a livestream video of my Mom's funeral service. I ran the wizard, accepting the defaults, but have no idea what I am doing. Can anyone advise me? Is there a simple, straightforward way to do this?

Many TIA. Ron in AZ

I'd recommend watching the Nerd or Die tutorial video series; it will get you a solid foundational knowledge of using OBS Studio:

OBS really isn't meant to be a screen recorder or stream-ripper though. It's a livestream production tool.
You may run into issues, and should test beforehand if possible with the same streaming service that will be providing the feed for the upcoming memorial. Alternately, you probably can reach out to the group providing the livestream, and request a recorded copy of the event be made available. That would be the highest-quality version, and MUCH better than the captured-and-re-encoded version you will get this way.

I'll be livestreaming a funeral in a couple of weeks for the family.
Are you running the livestream, or is someone else and you want to capture it?

If the event is being livestreamed by someone else, ask whoever is doing so if they'd record it. And if Facebook or YouTube (or similar), the recording is available for future viewing as is (and there are ways to download those videos without going through effort to capture/re-encode, with resulting drop in quality).
When streaming, I also record locally at 1080p as the stream to FB is at their required 720p. For a Baptism, I then uploaded the locally recorded (higher resolution) version of the stream for the family (and will do the same for the funeral, if requested). Oh, and my streaming PC also has a DVD burner so I can provide that content to those that are Internet challenged... s I'd recommend just asking whoever is doing the service what options they have
