Question / Help Help me decide the settings for my laptop for recording

My computer is a Dell Inspiron 15 series 3000 Laptop with a x64-bit system, dual core i7 nvdia geforce.
Heres a page with *all* the specs on my laptop :- https://www.cnet.com/g00/products/d...d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS5way8=&i10c.ua=1&i10c.dv=14
I want to be able to record with smooth gameplay and no lag.(the game I play isnt pubg, fortnite,or some heavy game, just a really light card game)
I used the auto configuration wizard but its useless as NVENC is available but I get a error when I try using it so I have to switch back to x264.
I can submit a log of me recording if anyone wants.
Thank you for reading and please help me,I've been trying to record for a long time now

The auto-configuration wizard isn't useless. NVENC detection is just a bit tricky, so the test sometimes results in a false positive for NVENC support.

Just use Simple Output Mode. Select "Software (x264)" as the encoder. Select "Indistinguishable Quality" for Recording Quality. Select FLV for Recording Format (or MKV, but only if you need multiple audio tracks). Do a test recording. Check the recording in VLC. Post a log file if you need help after that.

ah alrightTHanks for the suggestion,Ill try that and see how it goes.Yeah I only use VLC anyway.
Isnt MP4 better than FLV?
Ill still try it though, and if it fails Ill post a log

The quality just got even worse
Could you please be more specific?

You're running OBS on the Intel GPU instead of the Nvidia GPU. This is why you're now getting render lag.

No, MP4 is not better than FLV. If your system crashes during encoding, the entire MP4 will become unviewable.

Its more blurry,I cant get more specific that that rn,because I forgot XD
If you need that info,Ill take a screenie
I cant run it on the nvdia gpu, using the nvenc option causes an error
I've done multiple recordings now,my system hasnt crashed, and for my purpose if that does happen, keeping the half-done recording is useless anyway.

Help?

Under your NVIDIA control panel, change both OBS and your game to be rendering using your NVIDIA graphics card instead of your Intel HD card. The Intel card on your laptop is meant to preserve battery power, while the NVIDIA one is meant for performance.

Yes, you can use OBS on the Nvidia GPU. You just can't use NVENC. These are different things. They are not related. You want OBS to run its graphics and rendering on the Nvidia GPU, which is stronger than the Intel GPU. You would then use the x264/software encoder.

Use these settings in OBS Settings > Output:
Output Mode: Simple
Recording Quality: Indistinguishable Quality, Large File Size
Recording Format: flv (mkv only if you need multiple audio tracks)
Encoder: Software (x264)

Try those settings, and post a new log with those settings.

Thanks for the enlightenment, but can you guys please give me a step by step/instructions on how I can change which programs I can choose to be run with nvdia?I've never used nvdia control panel before.Im on windows 8.1

btw rytoex,Im already using those exact settings

I actually found the way by myself now,but im not sure what settings to use
Under preferred graphics processor there are 3 options
and theres another option for specific settings for the program.
What should I do?

Last thing, its a minor problem but If theres a solution itd be great
When I start recording, for about ~5 seconds my game stutters and then doesnt lag at all
OR
that doesnt happen and instead I get some lag in the gameplay, but when this happens it also speeds up in the next frames
Any fixes?

Create a scene with a title card, and start with that. Then after performance settles, switch to the scene with the game capture.

This is pretty commonly done just in general.
