Hello there! I should probably start with my specs since I have a lot of issues:
Dell Inspiron 15 7000
-Intel i5-7300HQ
-8gb DDR4 RAM
-GTX 1050ti 4gb
-256gb SSD
I also have about 100mbps of download and 100mbps of upload.
Not the most insanse laptop, but as an entry-mid level laptop for it's price it's very nice. Anways, since it's the only thing I have readily availabe as I'm away from home a lot, I'm trying to use it to stream, and in the last 48 hours have encountered many problems.
A. The Dell uses Optimus technology, which means it uses the integrated 630 HD graphics for the desktop and non intense applications and the 1050ti for accelerated programs.
-This means I can't record games and hardware accelerated programs, like Opera, by default. Just black screens.
-This also means that when I set OBS to run using the 1050ti it can record gameplay but cannot capture the desktop...except it can because just starting up a game will cause OBS to capture the desktop before the game pops up, but only the areas the window of the game will appear (if that makes sense).
-I can't set different scenes to use different graphics cards naturally. Also, game capture doesn't seem to work for games like CS:GO, only window capture.
B. The stream will come out crisp or the game will. If I mess with the priority settings, either the game will look decent and the stream will look laggy, or the stream will look clean but the game, on my end, will stutter. This is only for more intense programs.
-For example, CS:GO will run meh at normal priority and OBS looks fine at above normal. Then if I set OBS to high and CS:GO to above normal, OBS looks even better and CS:GO runs worse.
C. Building off B, framerates are VERY unstable. CS:GO will run at 50-60 fps with everything maxed out while OBS is running, so I lowered the settings all the way, and the game still ran at about 60fps, now jumping between 50 and 80. When more people are dead/no firing, the game runs faster. However, when I just stop moving (cursor and everything) I get 140fps solid. Probably from less moving aroundf for OBS to deal with. I get the same fps drops if I run OBS on the intel integrated, run CSGO in windowed, and capture the desktop.
-Possibly CPU bottleneck? It only runs at 80-87% according to task manager, and massive spikes and dips, but thats hard to keep track of with only one display.
-Also, lowering the resolution of CS:GO in windowed mode using window capture (game capture didn't work) actually lowered my framerate.
-Opening Opera with hard accel on dropped 20 frames off of CS:GO. CS:GO runs at about 150-160 with lowest settings and 100-110 on max settings.
Messing with the settings didn't really help the crazy framerate. I lowered the bitrate and set that...one cpu setting (can't remember) to superfast and ultrafast and neither helped (and the stream didn't seem to drop quality that much anyways).
