Help!!!!!! Audio not recording properly… I think!!

Hi there,

I'd been using OBS some time back and never had a problem with it before but I've just come back to use it today and I'm having the weirdest problem. At least I think I am!!!

I've actually gone and deleted the app and most of the preference files that I could find on the Mac to hopefully reset everything back to normal again.

I've re-installed OBS and added one audio source to it which is a BumbleBee II USB microphone. Speaking into the microphone shows a level and I can hear the microphone in my headphones so all is good so far.

Now comes the part I'm just not getting and it's probably because I'm tired or something but it's at this point I'm about to throw the computer out the window so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I want to record the microphone on say channel 1 and then some other audio on channel 2. I've not got anything else for channel 2 yet so I basically went into the Advanced Audio Properties and set the microphone to channel 2 only.

When it was set to channel 1 it would record and the audio was in the finished movie file. If I now as above change it to channel 2 and hit record again then the video records but the audio is silent.

In the Settings->Audio->General it is set to Stereo.

So my first most basic question is why when the microphone is set to channel 2 do I not get any audio recorded?

The second question kind of falls off the back of that one in that in the end (when I get the above working first) I'd like to be able to record 3 or 4 different audio sources and have them all output to different tracks as I believe that OBS can save to 6?

My question would therefore be if it's set to Stereo then how can it record 6 separate tracks? Where do they go as Stereo is only 2 tracks?
Do I need to change something in the settings in order to be able to record all 6 tracks?

If I do get it working to record the 6 separate tracks then if opening this movie in a video editor what will I get? Will I be able to see all the different tracks or not?

Many thanks for any help with this. Like I say I've been banging my head against a wall for around 5 hours now trying every single thing I could think of in the settings but to no avail which is why I deleted the app and decided to start again.

Any help would therefore be massively appreciated.

Many thanks,

Mark

OBS - Version 30.2.3

Okay minor update and I'm very obviously not understanding this correctly at all but I opened up a file with VLC and noticed there was an Audio Track menu item so went to that and went between Track 1 and Track 2 and both the audios are there!! It's just that I have to choose which one to use.

So my main question now would be let's say I've just got 2 audio tracks (for this example anyway!) how would I make it so that I end up with a video file which is stereo with one of the audio tracks in the left channel and the other audio track source in the right channel so when I open the video up in a video editor I can hear them both playing together?

Then after that if you do record to say all 6 tracks then how do you use those in a video editor if only the first track shows and plays?

Thanks,

Mark

As you've found, the tracks don't mix with each other. So you put everything on Track 1 that you want to hear by default, and then use the other tracks to intentionally keep things separate.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I'd meant to post back here with my findings as got it all working in the end.

Dragging the video into Filmora and then control clicking on the video showed me each of the different audio tracks recorded to the video and I'm able to get at them all.

Sorry I'd meant to update this earlier on but was having problems with my internet and so couldn't post.

Many thanks for the reply though.

Best wishes,

Mark
