Question / Help Having an issue with separating audio channels...

Ok, I have it setup so that the audio when streaming is working and I had set it up so that when I record the audio is separated. But that doesn't appear to be working right.

Screenshots below.

In the recording output, it should be noted that channel 3 is working fine as that is the game sound, but the Mic for some reason on channel 2has nothing at all. Now I record when I stream, so I have a backup locally and the stream works 100%.

What am I doing wrong, because I did to a test on this once before and it worked so I left it. Now it appears to no longer be working.

1. Never, EVER record directly to MP4 with OBS for any reason. Record to MKV and remux it from OBS' File menu, Remux Recordings. Recording directly to MP4 has MAJOR PROBLEMS, and zero benefits.

2. Your multitrack recording setup looks correct; do be aware that on videos with multiple audio tracks, only ONE audio track will play back at a time in a media player. Check which audio track is selected when playing your recording back... chances are good it's set to Track 3 if you can hear desktop audio but not microphone. Also, some video players can freak out when Track 1 is missing; it can be a good idea to record your 'mixdown' track on the local recording anyway, just for completeness. I'd advise downloading and using VLC for playback if you aren't already; the default Windows media player is pretty crap in general, and can have problems of its own.

3. I'd ask why you have each audio source (desktop/desktop 1, mic/yeti) set up twice, and aren't using one? If you're using per-scene audio capture, you can go into Settings->Audio and just set each unused audio source to Disabled to tidy things up.

1) I have no choice but to use MP4, the NLE that I use (Da Vininci Resolve) doesn't like remuxed videos from OBS. So rather than put this big warning, which btw the program itself only suggest to consider to use it.

So that makes OBS at fault then, because MP4 can handle separated tracks and there is actually two tracks there. Just one has no sound what so ever. So where the hell is OBS getting the information for the track from, its certainly not the Mic!!

2) I have not had issues with multi tracks in my NLE, so I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

3) Because, that is the only way that I can stream both and record both at the same time. Track 1 is for streaming, if I don't do this, then the Mic is never put into the stream. And why I did that.

Ok on further testing, I switched it to mkv and both the stream and the recording was missing track3. The recording actually had track 3, but it was empty. The stream just had nothing. And I don't see how the stream should be missing track 3, which is the Game Audio, because that and the mic are mixed together.

Double checked the settings and they are the same as the images that I posted above, expect that the output for the file was MKV this time.

So something is really going on here that I can't work out!

Nope not Stream Elements, for some reason the Desktop Audio was not being monitored. When I closed OBS Studio down and relaunched it, the audio came back. Now I am at a loss to explain why that is the case!

Ok I am at a loss to explain this, just randomly it is stopping recording of track3 in the recording and/or the stream. Someone must have some ideas about this?

Uninstalled stream elements and its still doing this, so there has to be something wrong with OBS here.

So I am officially stumped and now believe this is a bug with OBS itself.

Found the problem.

This is a bug for sure...

Ok, there are times when I startup OBS Studio when the sound is coming out of my monitor or normal speakers. If I then switch the audio to go through my headset, is when the audio is not being recorded. As in chose the Output from the system Sound settings!

Has anyone else seen this on Windows 10?
