Sorry for this long post. We have an Allen and Heath ZED-14 mixer with a Windows Laptop running OSB Studio and an Avkans NDI PTZ Camera - 30X in our church sanctuary. This implementation is a few months old. Our initial goal is to provide a USB drive with each sermon to the preacher for purposes of peer review with other elders. The feedback was that the audio level was too low and they had to run it through other software to boost the audio level. The ZED-24 was initially configured to send the audio over a USB connection to the laptop, and the audio level in that we heard through the sanctuary speakers is the same signal sent to OSB Studio. I had a sound professional help me reconfigure the ZED-24 so we could have independent control of the volume - meaning the sanctuary speakers would be set at a comfortable level, but we would now have the ability to drive up the gain to have a stronger audio level going to OSB Studio. With headphones inserted at the output of the ZED 24, no echo was detected and we achieved a stronger audio signal. We did a quick test and all sounded good. However, the following Sunday's sermon had an awful echo in the video. I went in to troubleshoot yesterday and the echo is now gone, but I am not clear as to the exact thing I did to contribute to this change. I am typically pretty methodical in my troubleshooting.
I have several log files. Just to put a timeline to the log file dates. June 21&22 was prior to the ZED 24 reconfigure and represents when audio levels were low. June 26 is when the ZED 24 was reconfigured. July 1 was the troubleshooting that led to the elimination of the echo.
It seems that the echo might have been caused by the Desktop Audio feed. During video recording as Audio is fed from the ZED 24 to the Laptop, I noticed the meter for Desktop Audio was active at the same time as Mic/Aux. Although the attached screen shot shows that Desktop Audio is still active, if you look at the slider there is no "Blue Line". At this point the nasty echo is gone from recordings, and during video capture the meter for Desktop Audio is inactive. I would like to know what I did to make that change. I flipped through some Audio Monitoring settings but returned the setting to Monitor Off.
