GSync and OBS

Read a bunch of threads an posts over the last few days hoping to find something that will help with my issue.

I have 3 monitors setup for Windowed-Borderless mode in my game of choice and GSync works great... until I start OBS. The kicker is sometimes, once in a while, GSync will stay working while OBS is running (verified by the indicator and OSD refresh rate)! This is my desired end-state.

Many posts I've seen say to just don't use GSync. I'd rather not.

Wondering if someone could explain in semi-technical terms, what is it about OBS that doesn't consistently allow GGync to stay on? Or, maybe a better question, why does it actually work sometimes?

Appreciate any info!

Somebody knows what they're doing.

OBS records at a Constant Frame Rate. G-Sync is Variable Refresh Rate. Get it?

Shadowplay would be a good option to use while G-sync is enabled as all the recordings from it are Variable Frame Rate.

OBS is recording with constant frame rate. Gsync makes your display/game sources running with variable frame rate. Recording a variable frame rate source with constant frame rate works in general, but the resulting video will appear not smooth and appears to have slight stutter, even if no frames are lost.

Appreciate the replies and the simplicity of the answers. Follow-up Qs...

Is it possible to record at the variable rate of the display/games? If so, are their plans to implement that here?

Also, is there any software that does this for streaming and/or recording gameplay? I did a quick look at ShadowPlay this morning after receiving these answers and it just has too many limitations, compared to OBS, for what I do.

Thanks again!

The strangest issue I was getting while streaming for the first time in a while, everything was great besides trying to stream Valorant with game-capture would crash my valorant lol (using window capture now). G-Sync is off in the Nvidia App for the game and OBS, but whenever I enter the buy menu, the game feels in-between 60-100hz. but the game itself was fine, I think? running is exclusive fullscreen has no issue, only borderless-fullscreen has this problem, I have a 360hz monitor btw. The fix was to completely disable G-Sync which took me a whole day to figure out. I think whatever system that Riot or Unreal Engine 4 uses for overlaying the buy menu mixed with a capture software; is interfering with G-Sync and I don't think this is intended behaviour but maybe it is? I could be missing something, just thought to add this if it might help someone in another case.
