A friend and myself are streamers. We play a lot of games together while we stream including the new ghost recon: wildlands. We both have powerful systems with good upload speeds, but for some reason wildlands tends to fluctuate anywhere from slightly laggy to a laggy mess while we're live.
Here's where some expert help/information might come in handy. We can both do a local recording of wildlands using the exact same settings for local recordings as we do for live streaming with no lag issues apparent in the recording or in game, but if we live stream we run into issues like lowered frame rates and high cpu usage. we're both aware that wildlands is a cpu hog of course so we try to reduce that load by turning off a few cores dropping overall cpu usage to around 70% while live.
My questions are, what's causing the sudden spike in resource usage between a local recording and a live stream, and is there anything that can be done to smooth out our streaming experience? we can both play the game normally without OBS open and have smooth frame rates.
Maybe it could be the difference between the network/cpu usage when streaming that's pushing our systems to the limit? It seems unlikely to me, but I could be wrong. What's odd is OBS will report about 15% cpu usage when streaming/recording with wildlands using about 40-50% and all other major programs using maybe 1-5% CPU. So that SHOULD leave roughly 30-40% unused, yet without cpu affinity tweaks we're both maxing out. Even with some cores disable, using around 70% CPU overall and our graphics on low we lag while streaming.
Like i said, our systems are more than capable. I'm running a i7 6700k @4ghz+, 16gb of ram, and a gtx 1080. My friend is running a i7 3820 @3.6ghz+, 8gb of ram, and a gtx 980ti. even on low graphics settings we still get insane overall cpu usage, so i'm striking out gpu throttling as the culprit. High CPU usage however seems to be a theme with wildlands and the division since they both use the same engine and exhibit a lot of the same issues for streamers across the board, so we might just be stuck with laggy streams for wildlands for now. Any help would be appreciated.
