Getting Dazzle and OBS to work together

Hi
I want to transfer old VCR tapes to digital, have a working VCR player with only SCART output.
Windows 10 laptop.
OBS downloaded and running.
Just purchased a white Dazzle DVC100, loaded the CDROM, looked like it went on to download latest 64 bit drivers.

I am Still in the setup phase and a newbie.
(I can't connect the VCR to Dazzle yet as I am waiting for a SCART to Composite adaptor, ordered from eBay. (I have checked it will pass signal in the right direction!))

I can run the Pinnacle program and see the the Dazzle "Instant DVD Recorder" setup wizard,
After setting up, the "start recording " button is presented. If I click it a VOB file is created in the default temp folder
What confuses me is there is a "start recording" button on OBS as well. Do I have to click both? I have noticed that if I don't run the Pinnacle program the OBS sees the Dazzle anyway, showing up in Video Capture Device Properties. It seems to me I can completely ignore the Pinnacle software as long as OBS sees the Dazzle. I am just seeking reassurance about this.

If I were to digitize old VCR tapes an have a VCR player with SCART output, I would go to Amazon and search for "scart video capture". I get a list of cheap devices of about 15-25 Euro, all able to input SCART and output USB. These devices are recognized by OBS as video capture device, the same device type as a webcam.
No 3rd party tools required: OBS accesses the capture device directly.

OK, but I have a capture device now, highly recommended and bought for the same price. I saw those Amazon ones and chose the Dazzle instead because someone said they are slightly better.
I am sorry for tending to ramble in my questions, I will now drastically simplify:

Can I use OBS with a Dazzle but without using the Dazzle/Pinnacle "Instant DVD Recorder" software, as long as OBS recognises the dazzle?
