Just started using obs and ive just got a few questions on some recommended settings, i will post a log with my last rec. its the witcher 3 and ran good but had a little stutter at 1 or 2 points, doom is impossible but ive seen that as an issue on other threads as well. If anybody has any tips or tricks would greatly appreciate any help! Thanks!

@The_Squintz, you have a r9 390, which is quite capable of 1080p60fps...

If you have not already, the following link will take you to Xaymar's amazing plugin for the latest AMF codec for OBS Studio (it far exceeds the current AMD AMF adaptation provided by OBS Studio as default):
https://www.xaymar.com/portfolio/plugin-amf-encoder-for-obs-studio/
If you have any questions, comments or queries in regards to Xaymar's plugin, the following link will take you to the thread for it here in the OBS forums:
https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...ramework-encoder-plugin-for-obs-studio.52305/

Try the following settings in Output:

Output Mode: Advanced
Encoder: H264 (AMD AMF)
Preset: Balanced
Profile: High
Profile Level: 4.2
Rate Control Method: VBR_LAT
Minimum QP= 0
Maximum QP= 42
Target Bitrate= 50000
Peak Bitrate= 90000

This should give you smooth quality recordings, coupled with your i5 6500, @1080p60fps your fps in-game should also have be negligibly impacted whilst recording is being done.

If you don't have a SSD that you are recording to, then perhaps try lowering the target and peak bitrates a bit, if your recordings are stuttering during playback.

If you have fps issues in-game, then try lowering the Preset to Speed, if still an issue then reduce the profile to Main. This will reduce quality of your recording slightly (You will notice a little more pixelation in smoke, heavily shadowed areas when movement is occurring)

If you still have performance issues in-game or recording, then you will likely need to lower your in-game graphic options a tad to reduce strain on your CPU (Most likely) or your GPU (Least likely)

If you continue to have performance issues, upload a logfile & I will try to lend a hand further, as my CPU is an i5 2500 & my GPU is a r9 290x, pretty much just earlier models of your CPU & GPU.

If on the other hand you find that you have no performance issues at all after checking your log post-recording, try out the Quality Preset and a Profile level of 5.0 or 5.1 (Though I believe this is only 400 series capable, 4.2 is minimum for 1080p60fps) If you still have no issues after checking your log post-recording, you could even try for a Maximum QP of 36

Hope this helps you out!
