Question / Help Gaming CPU vs Workstation CPU?

Hey guys got a couple questions for you guys regarding cpu encoding.

1. Whats the best way to go with encoding? Gaming cpu or workstation cpu (xeon) ?

2. When using a dual pc system is it the best to use a capture card or send raw data over network to streaming pc?

3. Whats the best way to setup the audio for a streaming pc?

4. I still have an avermedia card c985 is that card still worth it? ive never used it lol.

Reason why i got these questions is i might get a second hand workstation with a xeon cpu.

1. Neither is better then the other per se. Rather it's a mix of cores and speeds. The guideline I like to give is:
a. Don't get anything slower then 2.66GHz.
b. Multiply the cores times the speed (e.g. 4 cores x 2.66 = 10.64) for a rough idea of the firepower of the CPU.

2. Depends. If the encoding computer is also running OBS, then usually a Capture card will work better, but again it depends on your setup (and esp. how your audio is setup).

3. What gear do you have? How many people's systems/gear are you trying to encode out?

4. It might be, but not for anything above 1920x1080@30p.

My PC setup is
Win10 Pro
i7-4790k (4,5ghz)
16gigs ram
GTX 780

Second Pc:
Capture card avermedia C985
The rest i dont know still looking around.
It is meant for 1 stream only at 720p 60fps

Monitors are working on dvi sadly lol but i can sacrifice it alittle by going back to hdmi for the capture card.

Just wanted to know what sorta cpu i can focus for since i can get a xeon cpu workstation.

For 1280x720@60p, I would say... shoot for a quad-core running at 2.8GHz or higher...assuming that (if it's a Xeon you're looking at) it's a E5v1 or newer CPU.
