Question / Help Gameplay NPC echo/rasp

So I'm quite new to using OBS and I have attempted to record gameplay across different games including Bully Scholarship Edition, Star Wars the Old Republic etc and the thing they all have in common hindering me from uploading the clips to Youtube is this annoying echo/rasp during NPC dialogue. I switched from classic OBS to OBS studio hoping that would fix it but it didn't.

So I'm looking for a potential fix to this problem if anybody else has had the same problem.

An example of this happening is on a video on my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GanzqYc5GtA

As you can hear, the dialogue isn't crisp, it's raspy and not comfortable to listen to for a full playthrough. It's also like you can hear two people voicing the dialogue at the same time.

^^ This video was recorded on classic OBS by the way.

It's not something as straightforward as your speakers being picked up by your mic, is it?

If not, I have no idea how to read OBS Classic logs, and as this is the Studio help forum, could you post a log from Studio?

Hm, it could be. Sorry to sound like a noob but if it were, how would I fix it so my mic wouldn't pick up the speakers? I use a headset for both audio and mic (Kotion Each G2000 to be specific).

I notice when I record gameplay using ordinary speakers that are behind my computer, I get no NPC echo when I rewatch the recorded gameplay. But whenever I use my headset to record, I get the NPC echo when I rewatch the gameplay.

Also keep in mind while I'm recording, I don't hear the NPC echo at all until I review the footage at the end. Like the Youtube video I linked, the NPC audio wasn't raspy like that at all while I was recording it live.

I will try to get a Studio log for tomorrow.

I did a quick search on your headset and there are people who complain of sound leaking from the headphones into the mic. It could very well be that this is the problem. If you're recording voiceover at the same time, it might be worth using your speakers instead of the headset for the game audio (because, as you say, the mic doesn't pick them up). If you're not recording voiceover while playing, you can of course disable the mic instead.

I could try that but the problem is my headset muffles the sound while I have them over my ears. So I will have the audio playing from the speakers while I commentate with sound-muffling headset so I will barely be able to hear the game audio itself. At this point, it kind of seems pointless having a headset if I'm going to have the audio come from the speakers instead of the headset itself.

You could always have the headset round your neck and adjust the mic so that it's in a good place. If you have a separate mic, of course, that's probably better, but in that case using the headphones instead of the speakers would probably cut bleedover more.

This is my first video with the audio coming through my speakers

As you can hear, the NPC audio isn't raspy anymore. I'm having to wear the headphones over my ears but turn the speakers up on high volume. Then I speak through the mic on the headset.

I think it's the best I can get at the moment.
