Game slows down a lot when recording

Here's why I'm posting:
I'm using the QuickSync hardware encoder to screen capture Minecraft. I can normally get ~150 fps on it, opening OBS decreases it to ~120. But the second I start recording, it drops to ~35 fps. Minecraft Java edition is a more CPU-bound game, so why would using the QuickSync encoder (which I believe is on the GPU) affect its performance this much?

Hi there this is a huge issue with many people using OBS and SLOBS at the moment.

There is no known fix and people continuously recommend changing encoders when it is not the fix at all. Its confusing.

Im having the same issue and have posted my own thread. Will relay anymore information to you when i find out.

You must start tho by using the process of elimination to pinpoint where the issue is stemming from.

For me iv tried updating everything from drivers to the games to windows ect, uninstalling possible programs causing issues, trying all settings within OBS ect and nothing has worked.

I believe it could be some kind of bug with windows and OBS but im still not sure. You can also post an OBS log for people to check on here and see if they can identify any issues as it definitely could differ PC to PC.

I'm assuming Windows Game Bar would also use QuickSync (I've got no idea what I'm talking about, I could be very wrong). If the issue is nonexistent with Game Bar, its an OBS thing. Otherwise, we'll have to keep looking.

I've installed the latest drivers from the Intel website. It may also be a Windows thing as Ubuntu doesn't have this issue, however macOS does.

EDIT: just did a test recording with Game Bar, its not a QuickSync issue.
